Description
"A Walker in Autumn" (1898) depicts a woman or figure walking through an autumnal landscape — the specific quality of autumn movement, the body adjusting to cooler air, the seasonal change registered in clothing and bearing as well as the surrounding palette of changing leaves. Shuntei renders autumn walking with attention to the specific seasonal outfit: the layered autumn kimono, the particular posture adopted in cooler weather, the relationship between the moving figure and the transformed autumnal landscape through which she moves.
