Hagoita- Badminte- Shuttlecock — やり羽子

"Hagoita — Badminton Shuttlecock" (やり羽子, Yari-hane) depicts the New Year's game of hanetsuki using a hagoita (decorated wooden paddle) to keep a shuttlecock in the air — the traditional winter game that was particularly associated with the New Year season and with young women's recreation. The hagoita paddle itself was a decorated object as well as a sporting implement, often featuring elaborate designs of kabuki actors or other popular subjects on its painted surface.
