Description
This vertical woodblock print, "Flute" by Naoko Matsubara (1976), shows a tightly coiled column of overlapping tubular, ribbon-like forms in magenta/crimson and deep indigo blue against a cream paper ground, the two colors interlocking so the shapes appear to twist and rotate continuously from top to bottom. The rounded, elongated forms are pierced here and there by small circular openings where the paper shows through. In the lower right margin are a red seal, pencil annotations, and a pencil signature.
