Takechi Mitsuhide, the samurai lord central to a thinly veiled retelling of the Honno-ji Incident, is one of kabuki's great leadership roles. Nakamura Kichiemon I was particularly acclaimed in this part. Shunsen's portrait conveys both authority and inner conflict. Lifetime Watanabe editions from the Nigao-e Shu series command $1,000-$2,800; posthumous reprints sell for $500-$1,000.
