Key value factors: For living or recently deceased artists, limited edition size and gallery representation drive value. Signed and numbered prints from smaller editions are most desirable.
The second composition in Oda's Kannonkyo series — a title combining Kannon (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) with kyō (sutra, or teaching), suggesting a visual rendering of the Kannon's teaching. The Kannon is the central figure of Oda's Buddhist iconography, and a "Kannon sutra" composition would be among her most directly devotional works: not simply depicting the deity but envisioning the content of her compassionate teaching in visual terms. The series format allows different aspects of this teaching to be explored across multiple compositions — perhaps different qualities of compassion, different manifestations of the deity, or different recipients of the Kannon's grace.
