Description
The third plate continues Ogura's exploration of the dining room as inner theatre, the soft-ground line picking out edges and folds while broad aquatint passages establish the room's tonal architecture. In soft-ground etching the artist works through a layer of waxy resin so that any pressed material — paper, leaves, fabric — leaves its texture behind on the plate. Ogura uses this property to introduce passages of recorded substance amid otherwise drawn elements, producing a surface that holds both the immediacy of touch and the deliberation of the etched mark. The composition's stillness invites the kind of slow looking the artist herself performs while seated at the table, and its quietness situates the work within a wider Kyoto-based current of intimate contemporary printmaking that prizes domestic observation over spectacle.
