Description
The fifth plate deepens the tonal register of the series, with aquatint biting set further into the plate to produce a darker overall key. The soft-ground line is drawn with a steady, deliberate hand, and the impressed textures left by pressed material register as faint accents within the plate's larger tonal architecture. Ogura's serial format recalls the way earlier Japanese print artists worked through a single subject across multiple sheets, though the subject here is privately autobiographical rather than public meisho. The dining room — repeatedly framed across the eight compositions — becomes a kind of extended portrait of inhabited space, with each plate adjusting the room's mood through changes of light, density and viewpoint rather than through any narrative incident.
