Description
Untitled (Osaki 01) belongs to Osaki's signature 'dissolving image' sequence, in which a painted image is filmed as it physically disintegrates in water or solvent, and a single frame is then printed and combined with projection. The first work in the numbered series typically establishes the source painting at a moment close to completion — pigment still cohered into recognisable form, with the earliest tendrils of dissolution visible at the edges. The hybrid medium pairs the fixed substrate of the print with a moving projection layer, so the still image carries a record of the painting's lifespan while the projection reanimates that same lifespan in real time. Produced after Osaki's 2000 graduation from Kyoto City University of Arts in printmaking, the series extends the print tradition's concern with multiplication and the captured instant into contemporary time-based media. Its inclusion at the 3rd PATinKyoto Print Art Triennale 2022 marks the work's recognition within the expanded field of Japanese printmaking.
