Description
Untitled (Osaki 03) corresponds to a later stage in the dissolution arc, at which the original painted image has largely surrendered figurative coherence and the composition is dominated by drift, sediment and the geometry of the liquid itself. In Osaki's practice the printed frame at this stage often reads as a near-abstract field, the residue of an image rather than the image, while the layered projection plays the surrounding seconds of the source film and so reintroduces the figurative source the print no longer holds. The work depends on the contrast between the fixity of the print — paper, ink, single instant — and the temporal continuity of projection, a contrast Osaki has pursued since his shift from pure printmaking into installation and time-based media. The series' selection for the 3rd PATinKyoto Print Art Triennale 2022 reflects the Triennale's interest in artists testing the boundary between print as object and print as event.
