Description
A tall, narrow wall-mounted wooden strip standing in for a shakuhachi flute, its upper block carved in stepped, beveled facets and banded with irregular horizontal stripes of indigo and pale grey-blue over bare wood; the lower length narrows into a thin, dark-stained shaft with a short run of matching blue-and-white striping near its foot. Executed in mokuhanga with pencil, wax, gesso and archival glue on wood by Paul Furneaux (date unknown), the piece hangs directly against a plain white wall, its shadow falling softly to the right.
