Description
A shirtless young man crouches at the water's edge, seen in profile, pouring powder from a tall yellow-green cylindrical container into a shell held in his other hand. He wears a white flower tucked in his dark hair, red drop earrings, a red beaded necklace, a coral or feather ornament over one shoulder, and a sash at the waist with an orange flower and trailing pink and black cloth. The palette is muted tan, cream, pale blue water, and soft pink against a warm beige background, with the artist's red seal and signature at right; "Le Betel 'Yap'" is inscribed at lower left. *Le Betel "Yap"* (Miles 64), Paul Jacoulet, 1940, woodcut printed in colours.
