Autumn Festival

A dense crowd of stylized figures in dark happi coats surrounds an ornate gold and black portable shrine (mikoshi) carried through a narrow street lined with market stalls and tiled rooftops. The composition uses a high, tilted vantage point and a limited palette of black, gold/ochre, gray, and cream to render the throng as a mass of repeated triangular head-coverings and dark forms against pale walls and matting-covered stalls. Below the title cartouche and seal at the lower edges, the print is pencil-numbered as part of a limited edition; woodblock, 2008, by Ray Morimura, titled "Autumn Festival."
