Description
Viewed from a covered wooden veranda beneath dark exposed rafters, the print looks out over a dense garden of snow-capped shrubs and trees rendered in rounded, cloud-like clumps of black, white, and grey. A single stone or wooden lantern stands among the bushes at the left, and a low railing and wooden decking cross the foreground; footprints or animal tracks mark a strip of snow just beyond the railing. The palette is restricted to black, white, and warm grey tones, giving the scene a hushed, wintry stillness; the sheet bears the artist's pencil signature, red seal, and an edition number in the lower margin. Ray Morimura, "Portland Japanese Garden In the Snow," 2017, woodblock print.
