Description

A courtesan in an elaborate blue-and-white patterned kimono stands with an ornate hairpin arrangement radiating from her upswept hair, accompanied by a shorter attendant in similarly patterned robes just behind her; both figures are rendered almost entirely in indigo blues against the print's cream-toned paper, with small accents of orange-red at the collar and undergarment edges. A flowering branch (cherry blossom) stretches across the top of the composition against a dark blue sky, and Japanese text columns with the artist's seal appear at the right and lower left. This woodblock print, titled "An00592340 001 L," is attributed to Ryusei Okamoto; the year is unknown.
