Description
The second numbered work in this series of inkjet, laser, and mixed-media prints continues Sawada's interrogation of how images circulate between camera, screen, and printer. Where a traditional nishiki-e is built from successive registered impressions of carved blocks, Sawada substitutes successive passes through reproductive machines — a photograph rephotographed from a screen, a screenshot printed and rescanned, a laser print laid over an inkjet ground. This layered procedure produces moiré, banding, and registration drift as legible content rather than as printing defects, foregrounding the mediating apparatus itself. Mixed-media additions — likely tape, adhesive, or collaged paper fragments — emphasise the physical object behind the apparently dematerialised digital image. Sawada developed this approach during the first half of her doctoral program at the Graduate School of Art, Kyoto Seika University, which she completed in 2016, and the work belongs to the body of practice for which she was selected for the 3rd PATinKyoto Print Art Triennale 2022.
