Description
A later work in Sawada's untitled sequence, again combining inkjet print, laser print, and mixed media. The skipped numbering between this piece and Sawada 02 suggests the works function less as a closed edition than as a running series of experiments in image transfer, each iteration testing what survives further generations of mechanical reproduction. The pairing of inkjet and laser output is significant: the two technologies render colour, tone, and edge differently, so juxtaposing them within a single sheet exposes the specific signature of each machine — dot patterning from the inkjet, slight gloss and toner relief from the laser. This material self-disclosure is consistent with Sawada's broader installation practice, which extends beyond the wall to incorporate video, audio, and sculptural elements drawn from found photography and printed ephemera. The work sits within the 'expanded printmaking' framework under which she was included in the 3rd PATinKyoto Print Art Triennale 2022, where print is treated as a logic of indexicality rather than a fixed medium.
