Description
From the same 2004 run as Conversation #104, this etching extends the dialogue between paired forms that gives the series its name. Tachibana's intaglio practice in this period favored a tight technical vocabulary — fine bitten line for structural edges, aquatint for tonal field, generous margins of unprinted paper around the central motifs. The result is a small, deliberate image in which two elements acknowledge one another across negative space. The Conversation series reflects training that began at Kobe University, where Tachibana took both a B.A. and an M.A. in Art Education before turning to studio practice and migrating to the United States. The series' incremental serial logic — many numbered states examining the same essential question — became one of her durable working methods, later carried into the Michi prints and the 2023 Cosmos sequence. Number 106 sits two steps along that progression from #104.
