Description
Eleventh in the 2023 Cosmos sequence, Scene A-11 sits well into a serial work where Tachibana's incremental shifts — a denser cluster of seed-points, a slightly altered axis, a chine-collé insert substituted for open ground — accumulate into a perceptible progression. The Birds & Flowers classification connects this print to the kacho-e tradition by subject, though Tachibana's treatment is closer to abstract Western contemporary intaglio than to nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock. By scene eleven, the cosmos blossom that anchors the series can be read as both botanical specimen and dispersed star-field, a reading consistent with the meditative, near-scientific register that recurs across her output. The 2023 date situates the work in her mature period, decades after the Conversation series of 2004, and within a practice that continues to fold the spare visual logic of Japanese aesthetic tradition into the materials and edge-language of contemporary etching.
