Description
Scene A-14 belongs to the late stretch of Tachibana's 2023 Cosmos sequence, where the artist's sustained inquiry into a single compositional question — the cosmos blossom as both flower and dispersed cosmos — reaches a high serial number without abandoning its essential subject. The Birds & Flowers classification connects the work to the kacho-e lineage of bird-and-flower imagery, while the medium of etching and the abstract register place it within contemporary intaglio. Visual qualities consistent with this body include sparse drawn line, restrained aquatint passages, and the surrounding paper used as active negative space, all carried over from a Bay Area printmaking practice she has maintained since 1993. The high serial number itself carries meaning: the discipline of returning to the same motif across many states reflects the slow, scientific patience that also defines her Michi (Path / Life) prints.
