Description
Scene A-22 is among the later numbered plates in the 2023 Cosmos sequence, and reads as part of a sustained variation rather than as a discrete image. The etching renders the cosmos plant in Tachibana's familiar combination of bitten line for the botanical drawing and aquatint for soft tonal fields. The serial logic is essential to the work: each plate is one moment within a longer meditation on a single botanical motif, and the meaning of any individual scene is partly carried by its position within the run. This treatment of repetition as contemplative practice connects the Cosmos prints to Tachibana's long-running Michi (Path / Life) series and to the cellular and branching imagery that has organized her work since the 1990s. Trained at Kobe University in Japan and active in San Francisco Bay Area studios since 1993, Tachibana works at the intersection of Japanese aesthetic tradition and contemporary Western intaglio, and the Cosmos sequence is a clear example of that exchange.
