Description
"Cosmos - Scene A-25" closes the visible run of Tachibana's 2023 A-sequence, the highest-numbered scene available here in a serial body whose internal coherence is one of its signal features. Like the other prints in the group, it is an etching — a medium that permits the artist's characteristic combination of fine linear delineation, well suited to the branching botanical and stellar structures that recur in her work, with the soft, even grounds of aquatint. The Cosmos title points both to the flower of that name and to a wider sense of cosmic order, a duality the artist has cultivated since the early 2000s. Tachibana trained as an art educator at Kobe University before relocating to the United States in 1993; her studio output since has consistently positioned itself between Japanese restraint and the diagrammatic, scientific sensibility associated with Western contemporary printmaking. Within that body of work, the Cosmos series functions as a parallel investigation alongside the long-running Michi (Path / Life) prints.
