Description
"Cosmos - Scene A-9" pairs naturally with Scene A-8 within the 2023 Cosmos A-sequence, the consecutive numbering typical of how Tachibana segments her serial output into closely related variants of a shared compositional problem. As an etching, the print is built from intaglio marks bitten into a metal plate; the artist's documented working vocabulary combines hard-ground line, aquatint tonal ground, and occasionally chine-collé inserts of fine paper, though the specific combination varies across the sequence. The Cosmos subject reads characteristically as both botanical and celestial: branching, particulate compositions that hover between scattered cosmos blossoms and stellar dispersion. Tachibana, born in Osaka in 1964 and educated in art education at Kobe University, has worked as a studio printmaker from the San Francisco Bay Area since 1993. The Cosmos series is one of two long-running bodies of work in her practice, the other being the Michi (Path / Life) sequence she has continued to develop in parallel since the early 2000s.
