The thirteenth work in Nakazawa's Ratio series continues his examination of mathematical proportion as a compositional and conceptual foundation. Ratio likely engages the golden section or other classical proportional systems, embedding abstract geometric divisions within the etched surface and using those divisions to govern the placement of calligraphic elements and metal leaf. The intaglio lines may be spare and precise — closer to the measured quality of technical drafting than to expressive gesture — allowing the proportional structure itself to generate visual interest. Metal leaf, applied at intervals determined by the governing ratio, introduces luminous nodes that make the underlying mathematical architecture visible as a pattern of reflected light. Thirteen works into this series suggests sustained formal rigor rather than improvisatory variation.
Ratio XIII was created by Shinichi Nakazawa (中澤慎一).
Ratio XIII uses Etching, on etching with metal leaf.
Ratio XIII depicts calligraphy and abstract.
