Petals-4

*Petals-4* (2018), an etching by Shinko Araki, is a horizontal composition divided into four vertical panels of unequal width. From left to right: a mottled violet-purple panel with a small grid of black dots in its lower half; a cream panel patterned with rows of pale gold circular, petal-like radiating motifs; a solid orange panel with faint horizontal striations; and a dark maroon panel bearing the same radiating circular motif, divided by a thin horizontal line near its base. The palette moves from cool violet through warm gold, orange, and deep wine tones in a flat, non-representational arrangement.
