Description
"Floral Design" presents Kawakami's decorative and botanical sensibility apart from his signature historical and cross-cultural themes — a composition organized around the visual pleasure of flowers arranged or depicted in an abstracted, patterned way. Kawakami's training in the sosaku-hanga tradition gave him the technical foundation to move between his historical narratives and more purely decorative subjects without losing his characteristic personal voice: the simplified forms, the warm color relationships, the sense of design as pleasure.
