Description
Florence gave Ono what all his European subjects gave him: the opportunity to apply a Japanese modernist eye to old-world architecture. The city's dense historic fabric — terracotta rooflines, the Duomo's mass, the tight streets of the Oltrarno — offered the same kind of urban layering he found in Tokyo's older neighborhoods. Ono's Florence emerges not as a tourist postcard but as a formal problem solved through bold shape-making and restrained color.
