Description
The Ostankino district of Moscow appears here during Ono's engagement with Soviet subjects in the early 1960s. The Ostankino Palace and its grounds, or perhaps the surrounding urban fabric of northern Moscow, are rendered with the same flat, reductive approach Ono brought to all his architectural subjects. His Soviet-era prints belong to a moment of cultural openness between Japan and the USSR, when travel and exchange were possible and Japanese artists sought unfamiliar visual territory.
