$500–$4,000. Common prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Ono's socially conscious prints and urban scenes are valued for both artistic quality and historical interest.
Carved in 1957 but printed in 1959, this edition of 4 from 10 reveals something of Ono's production practice — a carving held for two years before printing, perhaps awaiting the right moment or a specific request. The road as subject recurs in his work as a kind of existential motif: the path forward, the infrastructure of movement through a landscape. "Michi" in Japanese carries the added resonance of "way" or "path" in a philosophical sense, suggesting Ono was aware of the subject's deeper connotations.
