$200–$1,500. Common prints: $200–$500. Key value factors: Takahashi's prints are modestly priced. Quality examples with strong design are most valued.
A 1965 woodblock print in ink and color on paper whose title, "Unearth," suggests the act of excavation, of bringing something buried into the light. The word carries archaeological connotations, the careful removal of covering material to reveal what lies beneath, but also metaphorical ones: the unearthing of memory, hidden truth, or latent form. Takahashi likely builds the composition around a tension between concealment and revelation, with forms emerging from dense or dark areas of the print surface as if being uncovered by the viewer's gaze. The woodblock process itself involves a kind of unearthing, as the carver removes wood to reveal the printing surface and the inked impression brings the carved image forth from the block onto paper.
