$1,000–$6,000. Common subjects: $1,000–$2,000. Key value factors: Tanaka's exquisite farmhouse etchings are beloved by collectors worldwide. Since his death in 2019, prices have firmed. Traditional thatched-roof subjects are most popular.
Mount Ibuki, rising on the border of Shiga and Gifu prefectures, is one of the most prominent peaks in the Kansai region, visible from much of the surrounding plain and loaded with historical and mythological significance — it appears in ancient poetry and is associated with the hero Yamato Takeru. Tanaka's 1980 etching approaches the mountain as landscape rather than icon, capturing its mass and presence within the broader pastoral setting of the surrounding rice-growing plains.
