Description
Vibration Together introduces a kinetic quality into Aoki's otherwise static figural world. The title implies movement, resonance, or shared energy between figures—qualities that wood engraving can suggest through repeated parallel lines, staggered contours, or the optical shimmer produced by dense linear patterns on a white ground. Aoki may use slight repetition or displacement of the figure's outline to evoke motion, a technique the engraved line supports more readily than the broader cut of a woodblock chisel. The communal dimension of the title—together—places this within his ongoing concern with figures as social rather than solitary beings. The print reflects Aoki's broader project of finding, through an essentially Western printmaking medium, a visual language adequate to contemporary Japanese collective experience.
