Description
Created during a September 2006 stay in Chicago, this woodblock and silkscreen print documents an American urban landscape through Noda's Japanese printmaking lens. Edition 9 of 12, it records a late-summer day in the Midwest — still warm in September, with the particular slant light of early autumn over Lake Michigan and the city's grid of streets. Chicago's bold architecture and flat lakefront horizon would have offered different compositional material than the Japanese cityscapes Noda typically recorded. The edition notation confirms a print run of just twelve impressions, maintaining the intimate scale of Noda's Diary project even when working abroad.
