$2,000–$20,000+. Common lithographs: $2,000–$5,000. Key value factors: As one of Japan's most celebrated modern artists who lived to 107, Shinoda's work has a large, devoted following. Original sumi paintings far exceed print prices.
Created in 1990, Rihaku is a lithograph with hand coloring, combining mechanical reproduction with direct artistic touch. Rihaku is the Japanese reading of Li Bai, the celebrated Tang dynasty Chinese poet whose verse was deeply influential in Japanese literary culture. Shinoda's print pays homage not through illustration but through the spirit of Li Bai's work: bold, intoxicated with beauty, unafraid of empty space. The hand-applied color introduces an element of uniqueness to each impression, making this limited edition a hybrid of print and painting that mirrors the poet's fusion of craft and spontaneity.
