$2,000–$20,000+. Common lithographs: $2,000–$5,000. Key value factors: As one of Japan's most celebrated modern artists who lived to 107, Shinoda's work has a large, devoted following. Original sumi paintings far exceed print prices.
This Showa-period variant of Sprout D is a woodblock print that shares its title and theme with the ink-on-paper version but arrives through the distinct process of block carving and pressing. The Showa dating places it before 1989, aligning it with the other Sprout D in Shinoda's 1980s output. Where the two versions diverge is in the specific textures and edges that their respective techniques produce. Woodblock printing enforces a certain crispness at the boundary of each form, giving the sprouting shapes a definition that brush-applied ink might soften.
