Description
The fifth work in Fudezuka's 'Abyss of Awakening' series continues his exploration of deep water as a metaphor for the threshold between unconscious and conscious states. In this etching, forms likely dissolve at the picture's lower register into abstracted darkness, while surface light catches organic shapes — possibly aquatic plants, submerged stones, or the distorted reflections of branches — suspended in an ambiguous spatial field. Fudezuka achieves tonal depth through layered aquatint passages combined with fine engraved line work. The series title draws on the mythological associations of the abyss as a site of transformation, and this fifth iteration likely amplifies the sense of vertical immersion through a format emphasizing downward recession.
