Description

A landscape rendered almost entirely in shades of blue, with a range of rounded mountains rising behind a misty river valley under a pale peach-toned sky. In the foreground, a bare, drooping willow tree overhangs the water near a small building, while a robed figure leads a pack animal along a shoreline path past a moored boat and scattered rocks and shrubs; columns of Chinese-poem text and red seals appear in the upper right. This chuban-format color woodblock print, "Illustration of a Chinese poem" from the series "Picture Book of Chinese Poems (Toshi gafu no uchi)," was designed by Totoya Hokkei in 1825.
