Flower of the Evergreen Magnolia

A single magnolia blossom in full bloom fills the center of the composition, rendered in bold black outline against the cream paper with its petals left unprinted white; a partially opened bud curves up from a leafy stem to the left. Dense clusters of dark, veined leaves in solid black surround and frame the flower below and to either side, creating strong contrast with the pale ground. A small red seal appears in the lower right corner, with the artist's pencil signature and date beneath the image; woodblock print, "Flower of the Evergreen Magnolia" by Hiratsuka Un'ichi, 1965.
