Description

A single peony bloom in dense black woodcut line fills the center of the composition, its ruffled petals rendered in bold, angular strokes with a curved stem hooking down to the lower left against the bare cream paper. A small red seal marks the lower right, with the title, romanized signature "Un'ichi," and date "1927" inscribed by hand below the image. Hiratsuka Un'ichi's 1922 woodcut *Peony* is otherwise stark and unadorned, with no background or secondary elements beyond the single flower.
