Teppozu, a reclaimed-land district on the eastern edge of Edo near the mouth of the Sumida River, was home to warehouses, boat traffic, and the Teppozu Inari shrine. This [oban](/glossary/oban) from the Famous Places in the Eastern Capital series (c. 1832-33) captures the district's working waterfront character — the bustle of cargo boats, the low skyline of warehouses, and the wide water channels that defined the area. Kuniyoshi's Edo landscape series document the city's less-glamorous commercial districts alongside its celebrated scenic viewpoints.
