Description
The second print in Hall-Patch's Kintsugi Cabin series applies the Japanese ceramic repair philosophy—mending broken vessels with gold to make the repair visible—to a damaged or weathered rural cabin. Photo-etching establishes the architectural form with photographic precision, while screen print and embossment build tonal and physical depth. Gold leaf is applied at fractures, joints, or areas of structural repair in the depicted structure, drawing attention to impermanence and the beauty of age and mending. The chine collé elements layer thin [washi](/glossary/washi) papers beneath the printed image. Together these techniques enact the kintsugi principle in printmaking terms, valorizing fragility and repair.
