Untitled (1963) by Waichi Tsutaka

An abstract horizontal composition in dark navy blue on an unprimed off-white ground, with a dense band of pooled, lace-like blue pigment stretching across the lower-center portion, its edges broken into cellular pockets and drips, above a smoother solid stroke of blue-black running along the upper register. A small cluster of pink spatter marks the upper left, and the artist's signature and date are inscribed in the lower right. Waichi Tsutaka, oil on burlap, 1963.
