Description
The title points to doubling — paired figures, mirrored objects, or a single form repeated within the composition. Yokoo's interest in ambiguous boundaries makes twinning a natural motif: a doubled image both insists on individuation and undermines it, the two readings refusing to settle. Printed from a single aluminium plate, the work is constrained to one tonal pass, concentrating attention on drawing and contour rather than colour. The directness of the single-plate matrix tends to produce images in which line, smudge, and erasure remain legible as gestures, the hand of the artist visible in the final impression. Within his wider practice Twins extends the interrogation of self, body, and trace that runs through prints such as Shiny Bones and That Suburb. The pairing imagery sits comfortably alongside Yokoo's broader interest in bodily memory — a twin being, in one sense, the body's record of its own form held outside itself.
