$300–$3,000. Common folk art prints: $300–$800. Key value factors: Mori's cheerful folk art prints are affordably priced. His stencil technique (kappazuri) is distinctive.
Bath House presents the sento — the traditional public bath house that was a central institution of Japanese urban life, particularly in the densely packed shitamachi districts where private bathing facilities were uncommon. The bath house was a space of enforced equality and communal relaxation, its gender-separated pools bringing together people of all classes for the daily ritual of hot water and conversation. Mori's rendering of this institution would have captured both its architectural character — the high tiled walls, the ranked bathers, the attendant's desk — and its social warmth.
