Description
This circa 1973 Shôwa-period Leo completes the documented portion of Kurosaki's Zodiac cycle. By this point in the series, Kurosaki had established a consistent formal methodology: each sign receives a unique geometric composition that encodes its symbolic character without illustrating it, using color, form, and spatial organization as equivalents for astrological meaning. Leo's fire-element associations and solar symbolism likely produce one of the warmer and more expansive compositions in the series, with color fields suggesting heat and luminosity rather than coolness or enclosure. Kurosaki printed this series himself according to sosaku-hanga principles, handling design, carving, and printing as an integrated practice. The circa 1973 dating places it within the same productive period as the other Zodiac prints, as Kurosaki's work was entering major international print collections.
