Morning 11 is among the more numerous of Amano's extended series — the "Morning" prints, which collectively constitute one of his most sustained investigations of a single temporal subject. Morning (asa) as an abstract concept rather than a specific depicted scene allows Amano considerable latitude: each "Morning" print may render different qualities of morning light, different compositions suggesting dawn's gradual brightening, or simply different formal arrangements that carry the title's temporal quality through chromatic rather than descriptive means.
