Description
Within Living Memory 2 is the second entry in a series whose title bridges the personal and the historical — events or experiences that occurred within the living memory of the artist's generation, within the lifetimes of those still alive when the work was made. For an artist born in 1929, "within living memory" encompasses the entirety of Japan's Showa period: the militarism of the 1930s, the Pacific War, the devastation of 1945, the postwar recovery, and the economic miracle. These are the defining experiences of Amano's generation.
