Red Morning

"Red Morning" (2020), acrylic on canvas by Asako Iwasawa, depicts a large pale-blue moon or sun beneath two white wing-like forms descending from the top edge of the composition, set against a graduated sky of grey, blue, and red. Below, a dense arrangement of green foliage fills the lower half, including broad-leafed plants, a yellow-flowered stem, and slender dark stalks topped with small round seed pods, while a blue-and-black butterfly flies among the greenery at left. The palette contrasts cool blues and greens with a band of bright red along the horizon, and the artist's signature appears in white at the lower right.
