Description
"Breaking Dawn" (2017) by Asako Iwasawa, acrylic on canvas, is a wide horizontal composition of dense tangled foliage and vines silhouetted in near-black green against a pale yellow-green dawn sky, with a small dark insect and faint moon-like orb suspended above. Three clusters of stylized orchid-like blossoms in cream, coral-orange, and blue-violet punctuate the dark greenery, their petals rendered with sharp linear detail against the softer atmospheric gradient behind them. The palette shifts from muted sage and butter-yellow at the horizon to deep blackish greens and touches of crimson in the tangled undergrowth below.
