Butterfly A

This abstract woodblock print layers overlapping curved and angular shapes in warm tones of ochre, mustard yellow, and burnt orange against a deep red ground, with small red diamond and square accents near the edges. A continuous black looping line spirals across the center, forming an irregular coiled form over the underlying color planes. Two small red seal marks appear in the lower right and lower portion of the composition. "Butterfly A," Chizuko Yoshida, 1953.
