"Fuji no Uraba" (Wisteria Leaves) is Chapter 33 of The Tale of Genji, in which Genji formally presents his daughter — the Akashi Princess — at the court of the Crown Prince, cementing the political alliance his calculations have arranged. The chapter's title refers to the wisteria leaves and flowers that decorated the occasion, and to a poem exchanged at the ceremony. Genji's satisfaction in this chapter is that of a master strategist who has placed his piece on the board and now watches the results unfold across generations. Ebina's print captures the courtly formality of the occasion.
